Rick Hinderer has always believed that a tool should work for you instead of against you. In his years as a firefighter, Hinderer learned a thing or two about using tools in extremely stressful situations. So he designed his best-seller, the XM-18, to offer a fantastic hand position, work safely and be very easy to use.
The Eklipse in the 3.5" inch version is, so to speak, the sister model of the XM-18. Originally introduced back in 2014, the Eklipse and the second very well-known knife design by Rick Hinderer without having to play second fiddle in the manufacturer's portfolio. On the contrary, the Eklipse has developed a loyal following over the years and quite a few Hinderer fans consider this knife the true star of the show.
While the Eklipse's Spearpoint blade may look familiar to you from the XM-18, it's a little different in the details. The distinctive shape of the Swedge on the back of the blade, makes for an exciting look. Noticeably, the blade is made of S45VN (the successor to the legendary S35VN steel) and has been ground to a much finer finish than previous generations of the Eklipse. The massive thumb studs also serve as blade stops when the knife is open - this is where the incredibly sturdy construction of the knife comes into play. Of course, the Eklipse also runs on the Tri-Way pivot system invented by Hinderer: here you can choose between ball bearings, nylon and bronze washers. Just rebuild your knife the way you like it best.
The biggest difference to the XM-18 is the handle: the titanium handle scales have an almost straight course and lie sensationally well in the hand thanks to the two recessed grips. On the show side, a grip made of milled G10 ensures optimal grip. A special feature is the thumb recess integrated into the handle: so you always have a secure grip and can work optimally with your Eklipse.
An important note: even if at first glance there is a great similarity - the Eklipse has its own hardware system, which is not interchangeable with the XM-18. Only clip, filler tab and axle screw are interchangable.
Tri-Way-Pivot-System
You would rather use your knife with ball bearings? Or would you rather use nylon washers? No problem. In the sixth generation of the XM-18 Rick Hinderer has introduced the "Tri Way Pivot System". Here you have the option to equip your knife with the included nylon or bronze washers or with small ball bearings without any problems.
What is Battle Bronze?
Rick Hinderer offers several finishes:
1. Stonewash finish= the blade and titanium hardware are stonewashed
2. working finish
= the blade and titanium hardware are sandblasted first and then get their stonewash finish. The surface is duller than the stonewash finish.
3. battle bronze/ battle blue= Working Finish in combination with a colored anodizing of the titanium hardware.

The Finishes
Stonewashed vs. working finish: The stonewashed finish is slightly lighter than the working finish. With the working finish, the parts are first sandblasted and then stonewashed. Working Finishes are a little bit more matte.
Bronze and Blue anodized vs. Battle Bronze and Battle Blue:

XM-Slippys are ingenious because you can carry them perfectly legal in Germany with or without the thumb disc.Unfortunately this little "extra" part gets lost sometimes. The thumb disk you simply push on the joint of the blade and fix it with the enclosed wrench.

Hinderer XM Armorers Tool
Schräubchen locker?
Wer kennt es nicht: den ganzen Abend lang das Messer auf der Couch bespielt oder am Wochenende mal wieder eine Panzertür aufgehebelt und nun wackelt die Klinge?
Kein Problem. Für die XM-18 3.5“ Modelle (Achtung, passt nicht für die kleineren 3“ Modelle) haben wir nun das Armorers Tool von Rick Hinderer im Programm.
Hier hast Du neben dem passenden Torx auch einen sogenannten Spanner-Schlüssel, mit dem sich die Achshülse der XM-18 3.5“ und der XM-24 Modelle kontern lässt. Zudem hat das Tool einen exakt passenden Schlitzschraubendreher.
Das Armorers Tool ist aus Stahl gefertigt und kann problemlos an deinem Schlüsselbund befestigt werden.
