A new classic

Böker have dug into their own history and unearthed a true classic, which had been somewhat forgotten and lay dormant in an old metal box at the Solingen factory.

The new Barlow Prime is a tribute to the Barlow knives, which were imported to the USA from Europe as early as the 18th century. Thus, at the turn of the century, the first Barlows also appeared in Böker's program.

The Barlow Prime is clearly based on one of the knives of that time and is - just like in the past - completely manufactured in Solingen. Typical for this type of knife are the two bolsters made of solid stainless steel, which are a little shorter on this Barlow variant than on the American representatives of its kind. On the one hand, this has the advantage that the grain of the wood is better accentuated and on the other hand, the weight is reduced a little. For the handle material, Böker have opted for either a dark hornbeam or a Scandinavian burl birch, both of which give off a great look. So that the wood is less sensitive to moisture, the material was stabilized in a special process. The small shield with the Böker logo is also embedded in the handle.

The blade is made of Böhler N690 steel, which is typical for Böker. Thanks to its very good rust resistance, this steel is also ideally suited for cutting food. At the same time, the edge takes a high sharpness. Towards the tip, the blade was given a ricasso on the back of the blade, which makes for a racy but equally classic look. To prevent the blade from accidentally folding, the slipjoint spring engages another time at 90 degrees.

All in all, Böker have brought a great version of a true gentleman's knife classic back to life here. The Barlow Prime is a pocket knife that is just as versatile as it is elegant. Whether in the pocket of a pair of rough jeans or the watchpocket of a suit vest - with this knife you get a companion that cuts a great figure for any occasion.

Böker Barlow Prime Expedition
Böker Barlow Prime Expedition compact pocket knife in classic look N690 steel blade and Micarta handle scales Handmade in Solingen Off to new adventuresWhich pocket knife Ernest Shackleton had in his pocket when he set off on his Impirial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in his ship, the Endurance, in 1914, we don't know for sure, of course. But we like the idea of thinking it might have been the new Böker Barlow Prime Expedition. The name of this knife exudes the charm of the great voyages of discovery of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and indeed this pocket knife would certainly have made a faithful companion on such a voyage. The Barlow Prime pays homage to the Barlow knives, which were imported to the United States from Europe as early as the 18th century. Thus, at the turn of the century, the first Barlows also appeared in Böker's lineup. The Barlow Prime is clearly based on one of the knives of that time and is - just like in the past - completely manufactured in Solingen. Typical for this type of knife are the two bolsters made of solid brass, which are a little shorter on this Barlow variant than on the American representatives of its kind. This has the advantage that the weight is reduced a little. For the handle material, Böker have opted for a classic green Micarta, which together with the brass bolsters gives a great look. The small shield with the Böker logo is also embedded in the handle. Böhler's N690 steel is used for the blade, which is highly resistant to rust thanks to its high chrome content. Whether in the pocket of a fur jacket or the pocket of a sailor's pants - with this knife you get a companion that is ready for any adventure.

Böker Barlow Prime Castle Castle
Böker Barlow Prime Castle Castle Limited to 1133 copies O1 steel (carbon steel) Handle scales from the castle Burg Castle Burg One of the most famous landmarks of the Bergisches Land is Burg Castle, completed in 1133. Not far from Böker Manufaktur in Solingen, the venerable walls are enthroned on the mountain, from which the Bergisches Land can be wonderfully overlooked. When it became clear that the ravages of time would not leave no trace even on such a bulwark and that a costly renovation would be necessary, Böker came up with the idea of not simply letting the centuries-old oak planks decay. Instead, the Böker Manufaktur is now making handle scales for a new series of knives, which can really be seen. In addition, the Böker with their Tree logo has always had a special connection to the material wood. All patterns of the new Castle Castle series are limited to 1133 pieces. Another innovation in this series, is the use of O1 tool steel. This alloy has been used for tool and weapon making since World War I and has proven over the decades to be one of the best knife steels available. To protect the non-stainless steel from the elements, the blades have been given an Acid Stonewash finish that visually matches the handle scales very well. The brass liners and nickel silver bolsters complete the look perfectly.
